Centre Panel

104-Small

The large centre panel of the plaque, designed by Cesar Forero, graphically illustrates the development of the Kirkland Lake region:  the boreal forest being opened up by the arrival of the railway, the prospecting and staking of claims,  the erection of head frames and the sinking of shafts, the arrival of families and the ongoing hard, dangerous labour both above and underground to extract the gold from the rock.
